Fictional TV Character Must Carry Surprise Pregnancy Term
LOS ANGELES - A showrunner for prestige television's latest hit confirmed on Wednesday that the lead character must carry her surprise pregnancy to term.
"It doesn't make any sense for this character to get pregnant right now. We're a cable network and we haven't even shown an impossibly sensual sex scene with a hot stranger. But we're making her carry this pregnancy to term anyway," said veteran showrunner Quentin Milton.
The character is just the latest in a long line of fictional television characters who always choose to go through with the pregnancy.
"When you're doing a poverty exploitation show for a rich white audience, you have to increase the stakes of the poverty to unimaginable levels. And the best way to that, especially in this economy, is through an unplanned pregnancy," said Ed Callahan, who also has had several successful shows on streaming networks.
Other showrunners, who spoke under condition of anonymity, said the real obstacle is the leadership at studios.
"I've tried to have multiple characters make the obvious decision to have an abortion," said one exasperated writer, "but the Ellisons nixed the idea."
After further investigation, The Observerer was able to confirm one scenario in which studio heads would approve an abortion storyline.
"If you cast Sydney Sweeney, they don't want to see a pregnancy bump on her," said one executive producer. "It messes with their bets about her underwear on Kalshi."
