SPRINGFIELD - At a local ice cream shop on Sunday, customers were shocked to learn that the word sherbet only has one r. In the non-dairy section on the shop's menu, right next to Italian ice and sorbet options, was the word sherbet, spelled correctly with just one r.

"I don't know why we're all adding a second R just before the T," cried Alana, while slowly sliding down to the floor into a fetal position. "But I can't bring myself to do it any other way."

The debate quickly moved online where people used up their precious weekend free time to argue with strangers over the correct pronunciation of a dessert that is just never going to be as good as ice cream.

"Why does it feel so weird to say 'sure bet'?" asked Jason. "We live in a society that loves to gamble, I mean, trade on everything."

"It's 'sure butt' not 'sure bet.' There is absolutely no second r and everyone who pronounces it that way disgusts me," posted Nancy, who likes to correct people's spelling on social media and call the police on black men.

Many were surprised to learn that in Britain, sherbet isn't a sweet frozen treat but rather a sweet powder with fizzling properties.

"Well, that's another good reason good men fought a war to kick those fuckin' redcoats off our land," commented Jason.
